Intro
Stakeholder Mapping and Influence
Stakeholder mapping is a structured way to identify people and groups connected to an initiative, assess how they relate to it, and plan engagement. A stakeholder may authorize work, provide expertise, deliver a dependency, use the result, bear a cost, or experience an unintended effect. The map converts that varied landscape into explicit working hypotheses rather than leaving it as unrecorded intuition.
The map is not the engagement itself. It is a decision aid. Its value comes from the engagement plan and actions that follow: whom to involve, what to ask, what information to share, which concern to resolve, and when to review the relationship.
The working system
A useful stakeholder system has four connected records:
- Scope: the decision, change, product, or project being mapped.
- Register: the stakeholders, their roles, interests, needs, concerns, and evidence.
- Map: a selected view of priority or relationships, such as a power–interest matrix or an influence network.
- Engagement plan: the objective, message, ask, channel, cadence, owner, and next action for each priority stakeholder.
The flow is iterative:
