Intro
ITIL Fundamentals
ITIL is a framework for digital product and service management. It supplies shared concepts, models, and practices for turning demand or an opportunity into value. ITIL does not prescribe one fixed operating process. An organization selects and adapts the guidance to its context.
The current ITIL Foundation is Version 5. It keeps the value-oriented architecture introduced by ITIL 4 and adds an explicit eight-stage Product and Service Lifecycle. The framework now treats a digital product and its services as connected parts of one value-producing system.
The operating model
The ITIL Value System is the framework's top-level architecture. Opportunity and demand enter the system. Guiding principles shape decisions. Governance directs and monitors the organization. A value chain organizes work. Management practices provide reusable organizational capabilities. Continual improvement applies across every element. The intended output is value for stakeholders.
