Endpoint Management
Endpoint management is how an IT team sets up, configures, secures, and eventually retires the laptops, phones, and tablets people use for work. Instead of touching every device by hand, IT enrolls each one in a management platform that pushes settings, apps, and security policy to it automatically and reports back its status.

Don't Panic: Endpoint Management
Endpoint management is how an organization configures, secures, supports, and retires laptops, phones, and tablets without visiting each device with a clipboard and a haunted expression. The platform gives administrators a console. The real practice is deciding how much control is appropriate, how state is verified, and what happens when a device disagrees with the plan.
Start with ownership. Corporate-only devices, personal devices, shared devices, and dedicated kiosks deserve different management depth. MDM controls an enrolled device. MAM controls managed apps and organizational data without necessarily enrolling the whole device. UEM puts mobile and desktop management in one console, which is convenient but does not make every operating system behave the same way.
The control loop is assignment, wake-up, check-in, application, and report. A console assignment is intent. It does not prove the device received the policy or applied it. That distinction explains many support tickets that begin with but it says deployed and end with everyone learning patience.
Compliance connects endpoint management to identity. The platform checks reported state such as encryption, OS version, required software, and check-in age. Conditional access can require that result before allowing email or files. A passing result is evidence about configured signals at one time. It is not proof the device is free of compromise.
Operations cover onboarding, support, and offboarding. Automated enrollment can configure a new device at first power-on. Support reads compliance failures, stale check-ins, and app deployment state. Offboarding may require full wipe for a company device or selective wipe for organizational data on a personal device.

It is not asset inventory, patch policy, or endpoint detection by another name.
