System performance analysis is the method of finding which resource or dependency limits useful work: CPU, memory, storage, network, locks, or an external service. It turns reports such as “slow” into measured behavior, a testable bottleneck hypothesis, and a verified change.

System Performance Analysis
Performance work is an investigation, not a tuning ritual. The job is to explain a workload’s observed behavior under a stated load and then decide whether a change improves the outcome that matters. “CPU is low” and “the host feels slow” are observations, not diagnoses.
Start with the workload and its objective. Define the transaction, target latency or throughput, concurrency, data size, and time window. Establish a baseline under representative conditions. Then work through the system’s resources using a consistent method instead of starting with the metric dashboard that happens to be open.
